Three Cool Websites For Books

Although decried by many as another step in the downfall of the printed word, the internet is a excellent tool for those who love books and reading. Modern databases offer cool opportunities for readers to catalog, interact and share. Here are three book related websites we like:
BookMooch is a site where you can give away books that you no longer want, receive a credit for them to use in trades for books you do want. One book given away = one credit. The person sending the book pays the postage and the person receiving pays none. The service is free and easy to use, just sign up and start listing the books you would like to give away and look for some you are interested in. Free up your shelf space for something new!BookMooch.Com

LibraryThing is an online place to catalog your book collection. Leveraging the power of databases including Amazon.com and The Library of Congress it is easy to list your titles which then gives you the opportunity to search, sort and edit your collection as well as organize by tags and write reviews. One of the coolest aspects of the site is the social network - create and join groups, read reviews and view the collections that others have listed where you can find similar tastes and recommendations. Though your collection may be kept private if you like.
It is free to list up to 200 books, past that it is $10 a year or $25 for a lifetime. A great tool with a lot of flexibility for readers and book collectors.

We wrote about BookCrossing.com last month - Send your books on an adventure. This site allows users to tag & track books they have released into the wild or they have found that were left behind by other members. Another interesting site which connects readers from around the globe with a bit of charity and a sense of treasure hunting. A fun way to learn more about books and share some that maybe were just collecting dust on your shelf.
